2023 (Adult) Spring Workshop
with Debbie Mattison
Paint’n With Friends is proud to host visiting Artist, Debbie Mattison at our studio located at 7560 Monterey St., Suite 202, Gilroy, CA 95020 for a two day workshop April 18th & 19th, 2023.
About the Artist: Debbie Mattison https://www.debbiemattisonfineart.com/
As a child and young adult Debbie was a musician, studying flute and piano. After becoming and “empty nester” she found a creative outlet in painting and become more passionate about her art. While raising her children she had the opportunity to live in Holland and it was there that Debbie took her first painting class in 1992. Debbie’s love of painting grew, and she spent most of her time painting landscapes. After returning to the United States, she began watching art shows on TV and taking workshops with Jerry Yarnell. She continued to study with Jerry and in 2013 became a “Yarnell Certified Artist” and in 2016 she became a “Yarnell Certified Instructor”.
More recently Debbie has become interested in Plein Air Painting and has attend the Publisher’s Invitational for Plein Air painters. During the summer months she works outdoors as often as possible and enjoys the extra challenges that painting outside poses.
The workshop: The workshop this spring will be held at Paint’n With Friends Art Studio, 7560 Monterey Road, Suite 202, Gilroy, CA 95020

The workshop will run from 8:00 am to 4:00 PM each day and will entail a demonstration of the featured painting by the artist, Q&A and discussion time, and each participant painting the featured painting. .
Fees: $150 for 2 in studio days (includes the $50 booking fee) (supplies not included)
Need to know:
- Cancellations: Booking fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. We understand unforeseen events can arise. Should the need to cancel your event arise, please notify us at least 14 calendar days in advance an additional $50 cancellation fee will be charged. If we are NOT notified at least 14 calendar days in advance of the event’s start time an additional $75.00 cancellation fee will be charged.
Transportation, Food & Lodging: Students are responsible to arrange for their own transportation, food, and lodging. Paint’n with Friends Art studio is equipped with a microwave, coffee & Keurig, assorted teas, (tips are accepted for treats) and a refrigerator should you want to bring in snacks, lunch, and beverages. (see below for lodging and dining suggestions).
Suggested Art Supplies Needed: Since this workshop is being held in an artist studio, there will be tables, chairs, and tabletop easels available for use (if desired); however, you must supply all other art materials including
Art Critique: You are welcome to bring 2-3 (max) pieces of your own artwork for a critique. Debbie prefers critiquing original artwork verses photographs – but realizes air travel may preclude some of you from bringing originals. Good-quality photographs will suffice; but please, if you are bringing photos in an album, pre-select 2-3 from your collection for critiquing.

- 4 Canvases (suggested sizes are 1 10x20 for the wave painting, 1 11x14, and 2 8x10's) Paint'n With Friends Art Studio will have canvas' for sale at the workshop (Michaels and/or Jerry's Artsarama Brand).
- White Gesso
- HB Acrylic Paint -or- Water mixable Oils (will forward suggested colors)
- Brushes
- Water bucket
- Charcoal for sketching
- Sta-Wet Palette
- Dabble Board
- Mister Water Sprayer
- Paper Towels
Art Critique: You are welcome to bring 2-3 (max) pieces of your own artwork for a critique. Debbie prefers critiquing original artwork verses photographs – but realizes air travel may preclude some of you from bringing originals. Good-quality photographs will suffice; but please, if you are bringing photos in an album, pre-select 2-3 from your collection for critiquing.
After you sign up we will send you a confirmation/informational email that will include the supply list, a copy of our Registration Form and other pertinent information. Additionally for those of you travelling in, the email will also contain lodging and dining suggestions. Please bring the signed Registration Form to the studio with you, or you can fill out and e-sign the release here on our website. Click HERE to access the form.
